R-E-S-P-E-C-T THE RULESSS ;-)

RIGHT OF WAY

The rules for kitesurfing are mainly based on sailing and windsurfing.
Coming from windsurfing, the term "starboard tack" is quite known around the world. This is the same as "right hand in front".
It means, if you are riding and someone rides towards you, with the exact upwind course as yours, someone has to give the right of way. In this case, the starboard or right hand in front rule gets used by the majority of the kitesurfers worldwide.
If you are riding towards someone, and you have your right hand in front on your bar, you have the right of way. The rider coming towards you, then has his right hand at the back part of his bar, and his left hand in front.
The rider with the left hand in front, should give the right of way to the rider with the right hand in front.
Practically, the rider with the right hand in front, should fly his kite further up and stay on his course. The rider with the left hand in front, should ride downwind and fly his kite low, so both kites and riders can pass without any problems.
Now if a rider is more upwind of you, and even if you have the right hand in front, you should lower your kite, and let the other rider keep riding on his course, since you will not make as much upwind to be facing him, and you shouldn't even try. Meanwhile the other rider should fly his kite further up, to avoid any collisions.
Use your common sense to judge the situation correctly. Don't insist on your right, even if you know the other rider is more upwind than you. Understand, that beginners have no ideas of the rules, so once you ride towards someone, analyze their skills quickly and judge accordingly. You can also give signals, that you will insist on your right of way. Sometimes the other rider cannot change course due to other riders or hazards, this you should anticipate and then act accordingly.
To avoid collisions, anticipate, and do a turn before problems may arise or just stop in the water with your kite high up and wait, until a dangerous situation gets solved.
Never do a sudden change of course directly before the other, this can lead to very bad accidents.
The above rules may be different if you ride On the Wave.

PASSINNG OTHERS RIDERS
Inexperienced riders are stressed by passing other riders, or getting passed by experienced riders who fly their kite very close to your own. That is normally no problem, if you act accordingly and don't do anything no one would anticipate. This is key when passing some and their kites.
Never steer your kite quickly in a way, no one anticipates it. This can lead to very dangerous situations.

MOVING RIDERS
Make sure to know the rules of Right of Way when you go riding. This already explains how you should behave if a rider comes towards you on the same upwind course.
Two riders can pass each other without any problems. Both just need to know what exactly to do.
The normal rules are:
  • the kiter further upwind flies his kite high and stays on his course
  • the kiter further downwind flies the kite low and corrects his course a bit downwind if needed to avoid any collision
It is important, that once you fly your kite high or low, you try to keep that kite position, so both kites can pass. If you suddenly move your kite, you can cause many problems.
If you see, that the kites are coming close, you can slowly steer it away from the other kite, but make sure to keep riding and not steer it to another direction.

STANDING RIDERS
It happens quiet often, that kiters are standing still with their kite high up in the sky.
These are:
  • beginners who are learning
  • someone with a gear failure
  • someone recovering from a crash
  • someone relaxing
When you approach a kite high up in the sky, you should know before you pass the kite, what kind of rider the one in the water is.
Ride slowly towards the rider and make sure you have enough distance to pass the other one's kite.
Be aware, that when you fly your kite above someone else's kite, you will need to fly it high, and this way you cannot edge anymore and you will ride downwind, which may lead to a crash with the standing rider.
The standing rider should keep his kite on one position, or slowly fly the kite to one side, so the moving rider can easily pass without getting into danger.
Make sure that you pass no beginners downwind, since it can happen easily, that they crash their kite on you. Before passing a beginner downwind, you should either wait until he is up and riding again, but the best is to do a turn and go to the other direction and try to go further upwind to pass the beginner with more distance, upwind of him.

RELAUNCHING OR UPWIND
BODYDRAGGING

Relaunching

Riders with a dropped kite want their kite up as fast as possible.
Never get close to a kite, that is about to relaunch, nor fly your kite close to the dropped kite.
You should pass a dropped kite and the rider only upwind, or with good distance you can do it also downwind. But keep an eye on the kite, so you can act, if something goes wrong.
Pass upwind with a kite that flies pretty high, and don't ride too close to the rider.
Good riders should always keep an eye on the relaunch situation of the rider's kite, and if it looks like trouble to relaunch, ask the rider if he needs any help, then try to flip his kite or untangle bridles etc.

Bodydragging

Since no one should use a board leash, people need to bodydrag back to their board.
Normally anyone who bodydrags flies their kite on the same position and slowly turns it if they want to go to the other direction.
Always give a bodydragging rider the right of way, so they can quickly recover their board.
Many times it is good, when you see someone bodydragging for their board, and the distance is big, to just bring the rider the board, so they can get on it faster and be out of the way.
The rider bodydragging should always move their kite out of the way of moving riders, and the best is to keep it low over the water level, to block as little room as possible.
Be aware, that once a bodydragging rider reached his board, or shortly before, steers his kite into the zenith.

ON THE BEACH..
The beach is alway a place with many dangers.
  • kites launching
  • kites landing
  • people rigging their gear
  • people walking by
  • other water sports users
  • beach goers
  • obstacles
  • gusty winds
  • little space
Always follow local rules, be sure to know them before you start to rig your gear.
Accept the designated rigging, launching and landing zones.
Never endanger other people.
The rules is to use a little space as possible, specially if you are having a break, roll up your lines and move your kite out of the way.
You should always launch with a launch helper, if one is around. It is no problem to ask someone to give a quick assistance. Make sure to give the same assistance back if you get asked.
Control your setup and gear before the launch, while you launch, and then quickly go into the water.
It is strongly advised to launch and land your kite standing in the water, that will give you an extra space to avoid any accident.
Once you come back to land your kite, observe the beach and how packed it is. Wait until there is enough space to safely land your kite and get the attention from a assistance on the beach.
Do not come to the shore and wait for space. This can be very dangerous for many people, including yourself. Wait on the water with enough distance.
Let the riders come off the beach first, then come to the beach to land your gear.
If you are about to launch your kite, and someone comes in and wants to land, get his kite down first, then launch your kite.

COMING TO OR LEAVING THE SHORE

Depending on the different beaches, some conditions may need different rules for the right of way.
Some launches are dangerous, therefore people shouldn't be waiting for another rider to slowly come to shore and land his kite, while the other rider is waiting to get out onto the water, being in a gusty wind in front of obstacles.
Always ask locals before you rig your gear, if there are any local rules regarding the right of way of an incoming or outgoing rider.
Some locations require a rider to come in quickly, without getting onto the beach to land the kite.
Some beaches have very strong shore breaks, which makes it hard to leave the beach, therefore the outgoing rider should always have right of way.

ONE THE WAVE

Taken from windsurfing, a different rule applies if you are riding waves.
The rider in the wave should always be given the right of way.
You should not interfere any wave riding session of any board sports, like windsurfing, surfing, wave kiter. They are concentrating on the wave and nothing else around, knowing they have the right of way in the wave.
Look out for someone dropping into a wave and then either let the rider pass or ride to the direction.
The one who drops in first into a wave, has the right of way as well.

BEGINNERS
Beginners or "Newbees" should always keep a big distance to anyone else.
Don't get in the way of experienced riders, just stay clearly away.
Don't ride in the best parts of an area, specially where good riders are jumping or riding waves. Normally beginners cannot appreciate the excellent conditions to train tricks, once they are up to that level. But they can spoil a good session of good riders.
A kite can get quickly out of control, and no one wants to get hurt, so always make sure you keep the according distance.
Good riders will also not give right of way, since they fear riding downwind of a beginner, to get a kite dropped on their head. Always keep this in mind when you come into a situation like this. If you are not sure what to do as a beginner, simply stop, fly your kite high and wait until you have space again.
A beginner should never try to ride more upwind when facing a good rider, just to keep their rights of way, just give it to the better rider, and you will prevent accidents.
Experienced riders should not ride or jump too close to beginners, since they don't know that experienced riders have a pretty good kite control.

EXPERIENCED RIDERS

Experienced riders are very likely to have a good kite control.
This should always be used to avoid any problems on the water or land.
Always keep enough distance to anything else, and try to anticipate any possible problem that could happen.
Normally experienced riders went through a lot of different situations, and heard/read a lot about dangerous situations.
An experienced rider should always be more cautious and leave enough room for others, as well as being ready to help others in an emergency situation

SWIMMERS
Many locations have marked swimmer zones. Not all swimmer zones exist throughout the year. Make sure before you rig your gear, you know where these are. Normally they are well marked with buoys or signs.
In some areas violating and ignoring those zones will lead to bans of the sport or expensive fines by the officials.
In areas without swimmer zones, common sense is needed. You will find areas with many swimmers, but no official swimmer zones. Here common sense comes into play, staying as far away as possible.
You should also not be riding upwind of swimmer zones or swimmers, since if something happens, you will be dragged into those zones and endanger the swimmers.
Never be too close to swimmers. If you leave or enter a beach, always ride slow, specially when swimmers are close, so they don't get hurt.
Observe the swimmers before you go out or come in, since sometimes swimmers play in the shore break or dive, so you won't see them.
Normally, swimmers are very scared by kitesurfers, so don't scare them even more. And they don't know your skills, control, and where you can go/fly. Keep this in mind.

COHETE---CUSTOM SURFDOARD MAKER

Cohete name has become synonymous with quality Custom Surfboards, not only in our country and abroad. But few know who is behind the company. Opportunity to learn to interview John T. man behind Cohete.

How did your involvement with the construction planks?
My involvement with the construction of surfboards Hobbie.Tis first started as the foundation I got from some manufacturers who had met in England when I lived there for some years. Eventually, the Hobbie evolved after a few years begun to do epangelmatika.Genikotera and knowledge in the construction of surfboards is not something you learn but grown with time

Tell us a little about the Surf scene in Greece.
The surf scene in Greece magazines certainly growing, certainly sad, definitely wants a long time to mature and stand on their feet. The truth is that the sport is relatively new for us and consequently no culture to follow, but I think this comes with time so the reference level allos.Oso the riders believe it is very good upside if one consider and conditions that are equivalent to the external

Lately we find more and more surfboards in which the differences from a normal plank Surf?

There are key differences between them. By the same boards that make the surf and in theory do kitesurf. Certainly most used kitesurf performance is semi-k performance shortboards which the surf is not entirely valid because someone regardless of the level and quality of what the waveriding many different shapes. For example to see longboarders surfing half metro waves up to three and the other to see shortboarders surf wave of 1m up 4m.In kitesurf in the other we have established that the shortboard shape. The reason that this is the temperament of the game after needs regardless of what a wave and how the air you ride being quick and flexible .Consequently help shortboard shapes and planing and cutbacks.

What should you watch a Kite athletes who want to choose a Surfboard?

You will definitely need the option of having to do with the level in relation to Tosh that surfarei, a longer spot surfing, so how much air can get k to do with weight, height, if the back footer front footer, his personal preferences about how a plank likes to behave in water.

Do you have plans to bring up a specific surfboard for Kite?

I have specific shapes that work when I make kitesurf. The same shapes are constantly evolving to what it always help the team riders.Inside shots to get out kitesurf series consisting of four different shapes. Each and by extension all together will cover a wide gamma of different conditions as a reference the other waveriding k freestyle. For sure with the driver such as shape and will now become a maker and custom.

Perhaps some TwinTip board??

I think to be good at something should spend your whole creation with something thats pecific .Also should have a personal view which will come from your own experience checks and beliefs in relation to any sport. So I like shaper and team riders to help supplement the perception that I have in a plank ride. For to reach a desired outcome requires much work, effort and constant innovative thinking. I prefer therefore to evolve the ability to have the building surf boards

Advantages / Disadvantages Custom boards with this production.

Definitely a custom board is better than that one generation without absolute sure.Maybe get a board production'll match, which will be for your weight on your level compared to that ride in relation on how you want to behave in water. The reason for the production boards come in different dimensions exaple a shape made from 5'6 to 6'6 is just that. So therefore great importance is the choice of a new board and I think it is good to look as you can before your choise.A custom board would suit you just because they have built for you when it covers most of the required k I mentioned earlier

Can you tell us a good spot for  waveriding?
There are too many good spot for waveriding but will not reveal some..Google maps, forecast and goodwill.......!!!!

keep it real..

What I want to thank Nike 6.0 for support and gives me the opportunity to represent one of the core brands in dance surf.Finish, what I want to thank Creatures Of Leisure for support and that our cooperation in recent years.

Destroy BP before it Destroys Us

What's most striking about the present BP oil catastrophe is not that it is an aberration but rather part of a dangerous pattern of mankind's propensity to destroy nature. To destroy life in a large region of an ocean isn't even new: The world already has over two hundred "dead zones" where fish can't live because the ocean water has no more oxygen left thanks to the runoff effects of man-made chemicals.

Not content with mere deforestation and the vast destruction of biodiversity on land, Man has now expanded to destroy the oceans through overfishing, ocean acidification from CO2 emissions, agricultural runoff, flushing pharmaceuticals down the drain and unleashing crude oil directly into the ocean waters. It almost seems as if mankind were somehow bent on destroying itself by first destroying everything else on the planet just to see what happens.

Human beings, by any honest accounting, are repeat offenders engaged in crimes against nature. This article, by the way, isn't some clever way to try to push us all toward a U.N.-controlled world government where every human action is regulated by environmental cops; it's merely an observation of what's really happening right now on our planet.

The criminal corporations

It is the corporations that are committing these crimes against nature: Big Pharma's mass poisoning of the waters, BP's oil catastrophe crime against the planet in the Gulf Coast, the manufacture of Depleted Uranium shells by wealthy "defense" contractors, factory farming by meat producers, the poisoning of our farms by Monsanto and its campaign to dominate nature with genetically modified seeds... you get the picture. If you really look hard at the issues, it's the corporations who are destroying our planet and thereby destroying future survivability for the rest of us.

It is the corporations, in essence, that are the criminals who are now destroying the very world around us, and if We the People continue to let these corporations engage in such actions, it won't be long before we wake up and find ourselves enslaved in a Corporatocracy that has stolen from us the very world in which we had hoped to raise our children.

What is abundantly clear now is that corporations will do anything to make money, from the cruel and inhumane factory farming of cows to dumping millions of gallons of toxic chemicals in the ocean to try to sink the dead sea animals in the Gulf. Corporations would set fire to the entire planet if that act could somehow boost profits by 50% next quarter.

The unbridled greed that drives these corporations is simply incompatible with sustainable life on our planet. Through their careless, greed-driven actions, corporations are threatening YOUR life and the lives of your children.

I say enough is enough.

An armed revolt against the corporations?

There is already some mainstream talk about arresting the CEO of British Petroleum for his crimes against nature. It will never happen, of course, because these corporations wield too much power over government entities. We've seen it time and time again: Corporations are almost never held accountable for their crimes.

It is becoming increasingly clear that any action to hold these corporations accountable for their actions must come from the People -- most likely in the form of a dedicated revolt, or perhaps even an armed "mass citizens' arrest" of the corporate criminals.

Imagine ten thousand armed, angry citizens from Texas, Louisiana and Florida converging on the BP headquarters in Houston, led by a local Sheriff, marching in and arresting all the top CEOs of British Petroleum. That's the kind of action that needs to start taking place if any justice is ever to be found in our modern world of corporate corruption and government collusion.

When it comes to corporate crimes, the justice system has utterly failed. The corporations that commit crimes are almost never held responsible. Consider the aftermath of the Goldman Sachs fiasco in 2008 - 2009, when Wall Street banksters ripped off the American people to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars, and then got bailed out by the U.S. government with trillions of dollars in gift money. How is that justice?

Similarly, after drug giant Pfizer was found to have committed massive marketing fraud that violated federal law, the company was deemed "too big to fail" and was simply given a free pass by the government to stay in business, defrauding customers, states and nations. Pfizer set up a shell company to take the fall for its crimes, then went right back to business as usual. Read the story on CNN if you want to learn more: http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/04/0...

As CNN reports: Imagine being charged with a crime, but an imaginary friend takes the rap for you. That is essentially what happened when Pfizer, the world's largest pharmaceutical company, was caught illegally marketing Bextra, a painkiller that was taken off the market in 2005 because of safety concerns. When the criminal case was announced last fall, federal officials touted their prosecution as a model for tough, effective enforcement. "It sends a clear message" to the pharmaceutical industry, said Kevin Perkins, assistant director of the FBI's Criminal Investigative Division. But beyond the fanfare, a CNN Special Investigation found another story, one that officials downplayed when they declared victory. It's a story about the power major pharmaceutical companies have even when they break the laws intended to protect patients..."

Whether it's Big Pharma, Big Oil, Big Food or Big Agriculture, every large and powerful corporations gets away with murder because laws are never properly applied to them. BP is destroying an entire ocean -- and the livelihoods of millions of people -- and will probably get off with a large fine and a slap on the wrist. In two years, it will all be back to business as usual, polluting the oceans, destroying life and ignoring safety rules and regulations once again while the American people suffer.

More dangerous than terrorists

Corporations are a greater threat to our lives than terrorists. That much should be clear by now: When corporations poison our food supply with toxic chemical ingredients; when they poison our bodies with fraudulently-marketed pharmaceuticals; when they poison our oceans with careless oil drilling... they are threatening our lives and our livelihoods. They are destroying the only world we know, and they are proving themselves to be far more dangerous to our collective future than any terrorist organization.

The real terrorists, it turns out, have "Inc." after their name. And if we really want to go after the terrorists who present a clear and present danger to our health and lives, we must rise up against the corporate machine that now controls our media, our food, our sick-care system, our patents, our elected officials and our energy. We must gather our forces to make legally-justified citizens' arrests of those at the top who are responsible for these atrocities against nature and the People. We must unite out of a common desire for survival against the corporate criminals who are destroying our very futures as we speak.

We must seek the aid of the local Sheriffs, Constables and community law enforcement officials who would join us in making these arrests, and then we must march on the corporate headquarters of these criminal corporations, right through their front doors and into their corporate offices where arrests will be made at gunpoint.

And why gunpoint? Because corporations do not respect law, nor ethics, nor morality, nor compassion towards others. They only respect one thing: force. So we must reluctantly use force -- backed by the common sense of common law -- to make these corporations stop destroying our planet and our livelihoods. I'm not saying we march in there and shoot them; I'm saying we march in and arrest them and bring them to trial in local courts, with local jurors who can make local commonsense decisions about what to do with these criminal corporate executives.

The feds cannot be trusted on this. We must deal with these corporations on a local level, with the widespread support of the everyday people whose lives are being destroyed by these corporations.

The extinction of the human race

This is more than just holding corporations accountable for specific crimes such as poisoning the Gulf Coast; it's about our very survival. We're not merely talking about small, local damage to specific regions or industries here -- we are talking about the possibility of the extinction of the human race.

If the world's powerful corporations are allowed to continue operating as they have done, they will destroy our world and cause the collapse of human civilization. We cannot survive when suffocated under a cloud of chemical toxicity, financial fraud, genetically-modified seeds and widespread environmental destruction. Corporations are incapable of acting within the guidelines of long-term sustainable living. Their power and reach are now so great that they have the capacity to destroy modern civilization (which is quite fragile already).

Rising up against the corporations now means fighting for our very survival. What BP has made as clear as day is that we must now make a choice: We can choose to appease powerful corporations and exempt them from any real enforcement of rules, regulations or common sense; or we can take a stand against them, arrest their top executives, shut down their operations, revoke their corporate charters and set course in a new world without the destructive influence of endless greed backed by incessant profit-taking.

The worship of profit has become a scourge on human civilization. Unbridled greed is now our curse. "Economic activity", taken as a lone figure without the context in which it was generated, holds no measure of real value, and it should never been pursued for its own sake.

We must now shift our consciousness to a new era of the protection of life. We must value quality of life, not imaginary numbers in a bank account, and quality of life is a complex, interdependent equation that necessarily involves the sustaining of all the diverse ecosystems that now remain on our planet. For humans to live sustainably, happily and abundantly, we must stop destroying nature and start protecting it. We must be its steward, not its exploiter. And those corporations engaged in the mass destruction or poisoning of living ecosystems must be courageously arrested as criminals and prosecuted for their crimes against both the People and the planet.

There is no other way that we will survive the next century. Poisoning our planet on such a massive scale in an inexcusable act. We the People will either rise up against it, or we shall be destroyed by it.

I, for one, am willing to fight for our survival. Because I don't want human civilization to just be a sorry footnote in the history of life on planet Earth
